We encourage our Maple Avenue Ministries community to attend a significant event focused on peace and social justice this month. Hope College will present its 39th annual A.J. Muste Memorial Lecture exploring the challenging and timely topic: “Responding to Gaza: What Would A.J. Muste Do?”
Date: Wednesday, October 22
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Schaap Auditorium, Hope College
Cost: Free and open to the public (no registration required)
This year’s distinguished Muste speaker is Ariel Gold, the current General Secretary of the Fellowship of Reconciliation-USA. This organization is a global movement founded in 1914 to support the rights of conscience in resistance to war and military conscription. Gold is a powerful voice for justice, peace, and human rights.
To learn more about the speaker, you can visit the Fellowship of Reconciliation website.
The lecture honors the legacy of renowned justice and anti-war activist A.J. Muste, a prominent figure in the history of peace movements. Muste was an early member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation during WWI and led the organization from 1940-1952. His life was a testament to his deeply held convictions and his commitment to nonviolence, a legacy that continues to inspire our commitment to peace and reconciliation.
